Step 1: Cut Off the Food and Water Supply

Roaches are survival experts, but they can't live without food and water. For one to two weeks, be relentless with cleanliness. Place them in dark, hidden areas where you've seen activity, such as under the sink, behind the refrigerator, and in the back of cabinets.

Step 3: Create Barriers with Diatomaceous Earth

Food-grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is an excellent, non-toxic powder that kills roaches by dehydrating them. It's the same effective tool we recommend for controlling ants in our pet-safe ant guide. Use a puffer to apply a fine layer in out-of-the-way places: behind appliances, under cabinets, and across thresholds. It only works when it's dry.

Stop a future invasion before it starts. Use caulk to seal any cracks and gaps where roaches can enter from outside or neighboring apartments. Pay close attention to the areas around pipes under sinks, cracks in baseboards, and gaps around windows and doors.
